Are you Getting Your Senior Citizens Discount(s)?

Did you know there are special discounts for seniors on their gas, electric and telephone bills in the form of a 'senior citizen discount,' or, in the case of telephone bills, 'Lifeline assistance.'  

 

Georgia Power Senior Discount

Customers of Georgia Power Company who are 65 years or older with a total household income of $21,660.00 or less per year qualify to receive the senior citizen's discount. The monthly discount of $14.00 is applied to the customer's pre-fuel monthly bill amount. Also, seniors who get the senior citizen's discount will receive a $6.00 per month fuel credit to their bills. The electric service must be individually metered and in the senior's name. Investor-Owned Natural Gas

Customers with a total household income of $14,355 or less and are 65 years of age or older qualify to receive up to a $14.00 credit to their bill.  Also, the bill must be in the name of the senior who applies for the discount. The credit is applied to te Atlanta Gas Light Company base charge portion of the bill. You may find the Atlanta Gas Light Company Senior Discount Application here.

 

If you are an Atmos Energy customer who is 65 years of age or older with a total household income of $14,355 or less per year, then you are eligible to receive a waiver of the monthly customer charge (currently, $10.50). Atmos Energy serves the Columbus and Gainesville areas.

Additional Info: The Ark Elderly Assistance (NOAH Program) provides emergency financial assistance to Athens area elderly through Noah grants. These grants are made to persons 65 and older who live on a fixed income. No loss of income or exceptional expense need be demonstrated. Applicants are eligible for up to $100 Noah grants once in a 12-month period.

Additional Info: The Elderly Legal Assistance Program (ELAP) provides persons age 60+ with legal representation, information and education in civil legal matters throughout the state of Georgia. Program services include Legal Information, Legal Counseling, Case Representation and legal education sessions to help older Georgians prevent more costly, time-consuming legal problems. The program does not base eligibility on a person's income or resources.
